Concern for sustainable development is growing every day and with it society’s awareness is growing too. Initiatives are necessary to promote environmentally friendly projects and Volkswagen is aware of this.
This past June 2nd the Volkswagen Think Blue awards were held at the Francisco Giner Foundation in order to reward all those promoting sustainable development projects.
These awards demonstrate the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility and the environment worldwide. The jury assessed up to 72 candidatures, of which 3 projects received prizes.
In the Research Prize category, the winner was the Grupo de Investigación Energía y Medio Ambiente (GREFEMA) from Girona University for its thermoelectric recuperator based on residual heat in exhaust pipes.
The system developed by Innova, which forms part of the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB)’s Microelectrics Department was acknowledged for its Waste Heat Recovery Unit (WHRU) project, based on its system’s ability to convert the residual heat of hot surfaces into electricity.
Last but not least, the Track Record Prize was awarded to the Fundación Sotavento Galicia for its work in awareness raising and dissemination of renewable energy, energy efficiency and sustainable mobility over 14 years in its facilities at the Sotavento Experimental Wind Farm.
